Glenn Schoonover is currently the Executive Director for Worldwide
Technical Strategy – National Security, Defense and Public Safety at
Microsoft. For the previous two years he has been a Security Advisor on
the U.S. Federal Advanced Solutions Team (FAST), Public Sector at
Microsoft. He is responsible for developing and executing on the
Technical strategy for Public Safety, Defense and National Security
solutions worldwide and spends most of his time helping governments
build a secure, connected infrastructure on Microsoft technology. He
serves as a subject matter expert on Microsoft Security Solutions that
include integrated security and patch management.
Before joining Microsoft, Glenn served in a variety of command and
staff positions as an officer in the U.S. Army. A 1986 graduate of the
United States Military Academy at West Point, he is an authority on
network security architecture, vulnerability assessments and intrusion
detection with experience using a wide variety of commercial and open
source tools. His military career culminated as the Chief of Network
Security for the Army at the Pentagon. While there he established the
first comprehensive Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) at the
Pentagon for the Army. He has extensive experience in applying industry
best practices for security, authentication, intrusion detection and
emergency response and has been invited to speak at such conferences as
the Lockheed Martin IT Day 2005, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
G-First Conference 2005 and the Gartner Government Summit 2004.
Glenn is a veteran of combat operations during Operation Just Cause
in Panama (1989-1990) and Desert Shield/Storm in Kuwait (1990-1991) and
is the recipient of the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army
Commendation Medal and numerous other awards. He is also a former Master
Parachutist and Parachute Rigger having earned Zaire airborne wings
during operations in Africa as well as being Air Assault qualified. |
