Security Culture
Call for
Papers
As numerous surveys continue to suggest that people's attitudes and awareness of security issues are amongst the most significant
contributors to security incidents, it is evermore apparent that security can only be effective if staff know, understand, and accept
the necessary precautions. This highlights the
need to foster a security culture, in which
users are aware of the security issues that
pertain to them, and have the required knowledge
and skills to act appropriately. An effective
security culture represents one of the necessary
foundations for information security management,
and cannot be achieved without appropriate
attention to security awareness, training and
education for staff. With these perspectives in
mind, IFIP Working Groups 11.1 (Information
Security Management) and 11.8 (Security
Education) wish to solicit papers for a special
workshop session, to be held during the IFIP SEC
2006 conference (www.sec2006.org). Papers should
describe original ideas, research or practical
experiences related to the subject of security
culture. Suggested topics include, but are not
limited to:
- approaches to raising staff awareness
- monitoring and managing staff compliance
- case studies and practical experience
reports
- development and promotion of security
policy
- establishing staff as stakeholders in
security
- security culture in a wider cultural
context
